Torrey Pines Nature Reserve

The Yellow Band students were able to travel to North County San Diego on a gorgeous fall day to visit Torrey Pines Nature Reserve. After a very energetic bus ride down, all of the students were eager to explore and hike the nature reserve. But first, we stepped into the reserve's outdoor classroom to learn about the geology of the area on which we sat. The students were so engaged as the docent spoke and couldn't wait to begin moving to explore and see first-hand what they'd just been learning about.

Some of the things we learned about and saw were: trap-door spiders, erosion, iron-rich soil, and sedimentary layers of the Earth's surface. After the guided tour, we all hiked back down to the beach and ate our lunches under the shade of a few picnic tables. It was such a fun learning experience!
